Splendor is a clean, straightforward engine builder. You collect gem tokens and use them to buy cards. Those cards then act as permanent gems for future purchases. The rules are incredibly brief. The heavy poker chips are satisfying to handle. There is almost no direct interaction, but you will often race for the same cards. Turns move very fast. You spend a lot of time silently calculating the most efficient path. It is easy to teach and highly addictive. A reliable choice for closing out a game night.
