Scythe looks like a war game but plays like an engine builder. You control factions in an alternate history landscape. You spend most of your time upgrading your personal board and gathering resources. Combat happens, but it is actually quite rare. Threatening combat is often more useful than fighting. The miniatures look great on the table. The rules are surprisingly streamlined for such a large box. Turns move fast once players get the rhythm. It rewards efficiency and careful planning above all else. A very satisfying puzzle.
